Waiting in vain

After the cancellation due to the police activity,  in the day 24 of the Better Out Than In project, Banksy picked West side of highline, Hell’s kitchen in Manhattan as his newest work. The location his picked is famous stripclub, Hustler club on 51th street and 12th avenue.

Banksy pained a gentle man in a very formal suite, holding a bouquet of flowers. The falling petals are just like the gentleman’s broken heart. Banksy named this piece in his website as  “Waiting in Vain…at the door of the club.

This piece reminds me some of the cliche plot in films. The male lead is not affluent at all and has no prominent background. However, he falls in love with the female lead who works in a stripclub. He is not wealth enough to be part of the upper class world but all he has is the time and patience. He waits out side of the club door day after day. At the end, he realize that what he is doing is only waiting in vain.

Sorry, I might go a little too far. This piece might not as sarcastic or critic as Banksy did in other his artworks. Maybe he did, but I just didn’t feel the same way. To me, that’s the fun thing in art. Different audience has different reaction even toward to same piece.

Unlike Banksy’s most previous pieces, which require people to spend some more time finding the exact location, this one is quiet obvious on the street. Therefore, it soon attracted many people around it. 5 hours after Banksy announced the new work on his website,  Hustler club decided to remove the roller shutter and stored the work.
